The Capilano Library replaces the one that had opened in 1966 and was located in the Capilano Mall. The stand-alone library nestles in the natural setting at the edge of Fulton Ravine. The custom black Alcotex ACM was chosen for the end and side cladding. The modern design of the new building reflects the evolution of community libraries and includes study spaces, Makerspace and community meeting areas. Technological innovations have been adopted throughout the building.
An AIA/ALA Library Building Award for excellence in design was received in 2020.
